But five x two and a half hours? Occasional long shows is fine, but as a weekly series? I imagine people will get fed up of it fast.

I agree. Ninja in America is two hours, which isn't great but not terrible if they show enough runs. 2:30 is just a fifth more so might not be awful.. emoticon

But you're going to end up with the same course and the same handful of obstacles over and over and over again.

Well, it works for The Voice, Germany's Next Topmodel and the final round of Idols (not live anymore). They are usually 2 - 2.5 hours and scheduled weekly. The Voice is even 2x2 hours a week during the Blind Auditions.

But it looks like it won't be 2.5 hours every week. The launch is scheduled for two hours and it runs for 2 hours 15 minutes the week after.

The biggest problem will be that it's going to be quite repetitive. And the launch is scheduled against the updated version of Schlag den Star, which will run for four hours and does really well.

It's quite funny though, because the guy who usually does the commentary on Schlag den Star (and formerly Schlag den Raab) will do the commentary on Ninja Warrior, too. But he won't do Schlag den Star when it's on against Ninja Warrior. So people might get a bit confused.

I can't remember how long Sasuke runs for in Japan. 3 hours? And that's at least three different courses. So over two hours on just one course is going to be far too repetitive. Plus you'll get pretty much the same course for however many episodes the first stage lasts.

Going to be the same as the UK version having the same course for six episodes (= six hours). Stupid.

They've already aired two episodes and I haven't seen any of them. They are all on TV Now, you might be able to watch them with a proxy:
EP1: http://www.tvnow.de/rtl/ninja-warrior-ger/ninja-warrior-germany-die-staerkste-show-deutschlands-01-folge-01/player
EP2 http://www.tvnow.de/rtl/ninja-warrior-ger/ninja-warrior-germany-folge-2/player

It's doing quite well in terms of ratings, second episode was more watched than the first one and the reviews were positive, too. People called it fast paced and I read that the introduction videos are rather short and harmless, too.

If that means that they didn't use any sob stories, I don't know...

Quite funny is that - after the show was compared to Takeshi's Castle when it was announced with some people even calling it an TC adaption - nobody compared it to TC when it aired, but to Gladiators.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see German Gladiators next year on ProSieben.

Geoblocked emoticon

Are they filming on the UK course? Or using Japanese obstacles (probably not)?

They compare the UK version to Gladiators all the time, They even had one of the old Gladiators take part in the first series. Think he failed the first obstacle.

They use the same course throughout Europe, so yeah it'll be the same one used in the UK version.

Sorry if this is out of place, but have you seen the guy on the UK Quin Steps, who hops through all and then falls back and tries to get on the platform? They disallowed it, but it was great emoticon

So it's really just: Steps > slider thing > balance thing > full-body cargo net > grip-strength > Wall? That's like in US and UK, I know
