Re: Christmas (Singing) Turkey Seriously? I'd have thought anything would have been better than Bob the Builder. The UK is weird...
Anyway, moving on. This was released in November, and lasted just one week at the top. With another popular Irish singer, the late Joe Dolan, who I never realised was such a big deal until after he died, this is Good Looking Woman.
The woman 'dancing' in this video is actually Washout's Amanda Byram. True fact that is true. Incidentally, just before defecting to UK telly, she was nominated for the IFTA Viewer's Award in 2000 for Best Irish TV Personality. The winner was Hiudai/Hugo. <<< Yes, him over there again. Another true fact that is true.

Actually, Codex might find this funny. Following Dustin's increasing success at Christmas, TG4 - TnaG as it was then - decided the following year that Hugo - yes, him bursting out of my profile over there <<< - should release one. I wish I could show you that as well, called Get Out Of That Chimney Hiudai!
Yay for Hugo songs Just too bad that you couldn't find it. We actually had a few Hugo songs here in Germany, too. No Christmas song, though, but a Snowboard Mix. That's close to Christmas.

@Dan Zig and Zag were several times on BBLB last year. I think it was them.
Re: Christmas (Singing) Turkey Accompanying Good Looking Woman as the Christmas B-side was... well it had to happen eventually, didn't it?
Fairytale of New York.
Appearing with Dustin this time was Dervla Kirwan, who at the time was reaching the height of her popularity as Assumpta in Ballykissangel. Yes, we know how to pick the best 'uns!
Re: Christmas (Singing) Turkey [childish whinge] Your bewilderment confuses me greatly. [/childish whinge]
Actually, that's unkind, I'm sorry. I had a bigger rant that I immediately regretted typing after posting it, but it's gone now, just left the last line behind. It is an Irish thing, after all. I'm reminded now of Dara O'Briain DVDs, when on the extras, he puts up a disclaimer for the Dublin gigs saying something along the lines of 'sorry if some of the stuff we talk about goes over your heads in the UK'.
I just felt like sharing one what has always been of the best things about Christmas for me, that's all. I won't start hurling abuse at people, just because I was briefly hurt by their response for a few seconds. That wouldn't be nice. At least it gives KHE 8 a bit of context now. (Remember that far back?)
Anyway, not much left. Next, a song that's better suited to St. Patrick's Day than Christmas, for reasons that will become obvious. 32 Counties, from album 4, Poultry in Motion.
Re: Christmas (Singing) Turkey It's been 10 years since Dustin's last number 1 hit. The video isn't around for some reason. The audio is though. A 'rave-a-like' version of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline. Didn't enjoy this one as much to be honest. Hands in the air!
We haven't had all the singles, but they're not all there. The Christmas B-side to 32 Counties, Christmas in Dublin, was a festive parody of the song Summer in Dublin. The one for Sweet Caroline was a rewrite of Hey Baby by DJ Otzi, called Hey Santa. I don't think that one got a video, those two songs were the only new material on the fifth ablum, Dustin's Greatest Hits, with the rest being a compilation of songs from the previous four, hence the title.
Album 6, the last one to date, was released in 2005, and saw Dustin team up with Chris de Burgh of Lady in Red fame to cover Chris' own song Patricia the Stripper. That got to No. 3, with a whole new song for the B-side, True Christmas.
Which finally brings us up to date. And this is what Ireland unleashed on the continent in the summer of 2008. Some countries got behind it in the build up, others were totally bemused, others just ignored it altogether. Failing to progress beyond the semi-final stage, I give you Dustin the Turkey's entry into the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, Irelande Douze Pointe.
And here's how it looked on the night of the semi-final...
Honestly? I preferred the video. Some booing, but they're 'it's not real, it's a disgrace' snobs who need to lighten up a little. It's all a bit of fun. They're a minority anyway, as I said, most people either were bemused or just plain ignored him. I'd sooner trust those that ignored him in that case. There were a lot worse than a puppet that year. See Spain. If you dare.
And that is a potted history of Dustin the Turkey as a novelty record maker. I like Dustin, and I also like Hugo the Troll, aka Hiudai. But which is better? There's only one way to find out...

Hugo, hands down.
Actually, I always thought that Dustin was a guy.. until this year. But I'm on your side with this, rsmcc. There were some weird characters in my childhood, too. They didn't sing, but I still liked them
